CLIMATE COMMS LAB

This 45-minute film follows on from the National Emergency Briefing, but in many ways is a different beast.

Back in November, top scientists and experts briefed MPs on the climate and nature crisis. The tone and design were deliberately highly official. The point was to reclaim social authority: world-leading professors with OBEs, an actual general, covid-briefing style lecterns, national security warnings. MPs couldn't dismiss it as the ravings of marginal eco-loons, as parts of the media have cynically encouraged them to do over the last few years.

This new film version is for everyone, and will screen across the UK in communities, so they can watch it together, ideally with their local MP... It's less data-heavy, more about making something visible: that most of us do want urgent action. Studies show MPs do in fact underestimate this, which hampers the political response.

It humanises the scientists, inviting them to speak more personally. It showcases a range of reactions from all walks of UK life, including a few well-known and trusted names, from Deborah Meaden to Adam Buxton. And importantly, it's being screened in communities, so you can watch and discuss with others near you and decide to take action together.

Last but not least, it's hopefully watchable. This is the first requirement of any piece of communication, but in practice often last on the list!
